Daren and Roy are masters of their trade. Having dealt with them over a two year period burying both my parents, I have to thank them for their help and understanding at such distressing times. Their effort in providing the services for the family and their honour and respect to the departed is something I have not experienced, seen or heard spoken about from any other funeral director in the area (and I am increasingly attending such events). As much as we think the funeral is about the dead, I felt that Daren and Roy gave support to me and my family removing a lot of stress to the living.
I would not hesitate to recommend M Luckings and Sons to anyone requiring a funeral director for a relative or friend.

It was fortunately my first experience visiting a Funeral Director, yet from the onset, Darren was incredibly quick to put me at ease and explain the process extremely calmly and compassionately with me. We had many encounters until the funeral and my family and I came to know Darren and his team to be sincerely respectful, incredibly knowledgable and, most importantly genuinely caring. Obviously, over their hundreds of years in the business, the family have grown into a truly amazing, and formidable team; and a true credit to the industry. Roy made the process beautiful from the initial meet to introducing us to Guy who held the service for us which was also very good and touching.

We lost my mum is July 2018. I knew that she and dad had wanted to use Lucking's but due to her earlier than expected death we had not had a chance to ask them. Roy contacted me as the hospice had contacted him and although this was not the best of circumstances and I had no experience of arranging a funeral he advised me, took charge where needed and made me feel supported. This continued all the way to the funeral. The day had respect, empathy and organisation. I could not have wished for more. Thank you to the whole team for making it the best it could have been.

Following my mother's death in February I chose M Lucking as the funeral directors, initially through the recommendation of a friend, but then I remembered that they had dealt with my father's funeral back in 2006. As an only child and, as it turned out, the only executor, I had to deal with everything and had never arranged a funeral myself before so it all seemed very daunting. I have to say that from the outset Roy at Luckings was extremely helpful and sympathetic. He guided me through the whole process and made it all very easy - from finding a priest to conduct the service to suggesting a florist for the flowers. Whether it was the printing of the service sheet or finding the right music for the funeral, help and support was there - which was really appreciated at a difficult time. The fact that they are in Chelmsford and I live in Eastbourne did not present a problem and we were able to deal with everything by phone and email. On the day itself Darren and his team played their part in the dignified way that you would expect. I liked the family feel that the firm has, they have centuries of experience, and I never once felt pushed into having something that I didn't want or steered towards the most expensive coffin, etc, as some funeral directors are prone to do. So I would certainly recommend them.

When Mum passed away 7 years ago we had M Lucking and Sons as our Funeral Directors and they were fantastic. So when my husband passed away in January we (myself and my children) had no hesitation in contacting them again. Darren was so understanding and patient and answered all my queries. My brother and I had planned to visit a couple of funeral directors to make an informed comparison but, following our initial meeting with Darren, it was a simple decision for us to use Luckings. His sympathetic and straightforward manner put us immediately at ease and we felt that we were in receipt of a very personal and efficient service at every subsequent stage, through to the funeral itself then afterwards with arrangements for our mother's gravestone. This is a family run business. They showed care, compassion and consideration to us and helped us through every step of the process. Making a difficult time with lots of decisions which need to be made quickly a lot more manageable. When we had any questions or queries they were at the end of the phone and extremely helpful.

It was the first time I ever had to arrange a cremation and it was for my mum.
I choose Lucking and Sons because they're a family business with great reviews, I was not disappointed, they were great, really helpful and talked me through everything.
On the actual day of the cremation everything went perfectly and they were so respectful.
My mum would have been very happy with her send off.

I recently had to arrange my late Aunts funeral. She passed away at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford,not an area that I know as I live some 90 miles away in Buckinghamshire at least two hours round the M25/A12 !!!
I needed to make the funeral arrangements by telephone and by as few journeys as possible, from the minute I called M Lucking and Sons and spoke to Roy the was response was one of yes can do and nothing was to much trouble every thing was sorted with kindness and efficiency which made a very stressful time a lot easier.
On the day of the funeral Darren looked after us well with kindness and compassion. My wife and I felt that at all times we were their only clients.

This family run business more then held up to the standards, care and attention to detail in every aspect of the funeral arrangements process. It was all that we could hope for when i recently lost my husband, All staff worked as a team, from the first call to handling the horse drawn coffin, to the very last requirement. They were always ready to give guidance and support to all members of the family and friends alike, but not to intrude. A great family firm and would certainly recommend them without any hesatation. Prices were also fair.
